I'm sorry I know this has been run into the ground but the search brought up posts from 2+ years ago so I was looking for something up to date. My predicament is the two shooting spots I know of (the rest are now houses) are Sycamore Creek and Queen Valley, both of which are far from Gilbert. Sycamore is a long haul and if I go to Queen Valley I have to go all the way up to the 60 and follow that around. So I was hoping someone could tell me a general area of a good place to shoot that's closer to south Gilbert.
thanks

This is the best I have found. 35 min or so from South Gilbert

Here is the shooting spot from QC. Once you are on price Rd. look to the right and there is a large dirt hill to shoot at about a mile in

Its a great place to use. All I ask as I fill people in on this spot is that when you shoot there please try to leave it cleaner then when you found it.

Enjoy

If you go to Queen Valley, the Whitlow Ranch Flood Control Basin is US Govt. Property (Army Corps of Engineers) and is closed to shooting. The Pinal County Sheriffs Deputies will ask you to leave at a minimum. To avoid this just go a 1/2 to one mile past the berm where the flood control basin starts. The rest of the area except the flood control basin is Tonto National Forrest and is open to shooting. I called and talked to the Tonto National Forrest Mesa Ranger District this week and the Pinal County Sheriffs office personally.

One last thing...
When shooting out off Price rd, please use the main berm as a backstop.
There is a smaller berm on the East side of the hill but when shooting West, your aiming right down Price and at quite a few structures along 79.
One round over the top, and you might end up hitting something important at the NG training facility, CCA detention center, or ICE facility.

Thanks for the info, that's exactly what I was looking for.

And as far as cleaning up my site... I like being able to shoot in the desert and would be really pissed if they closed spots due to trash. If everyone took a Hefty bag at a minimum then I don't think it would be a problem anymore. When I went out to Sycamore last week they had a construction trailer there and it looked like they were building something out there, right off the 87 on service road 415 or whatever it is.

We can use peer pressure to keep these areas cleaned up. When talking to others about shooting in the desert, I always mention that I bring trash bags with me and take out more than I bring in. And I am always opposed to shooting any kind of glass.

Click on the link above, use your starting address instead of the one that's there and you'll get directions.

Are there currently any fire restrictions preventing us from using this location during this memorial weekend? I was planning on trying it out tomorrow or Monday to pattern my new shotgun, and was planning on bringing some trash bags to clean up a bit; but I'd rather not make the hour drive only to be told that I would have to leave.

Thanks,
David

Went out there on my quad yesterday, first time in about 2 months.
WHAT A FREAKIN TRASH HEAP!
Man I'm pissed, looks like no one is bothering to clean up their messes.
Plywood, shot up monitors, cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, beer cans, and other worse.
Probably won't be long before they shut it down now.
To those that respect it and keep it clean my thanks.
To those of you that left your crap because your to f***ing lazy to clean up after yourselfs, f*** YOU VERY MUCH YOU f***ing LAZY ASS PIGS!
I know of Two other places close by, but I sure as hell will not be telling anyone where they are thanks to this.
And folks wonder why we don't tell people about our favorite spots, this is the reason.

ETA: the **** are due to the filters, there were no **** in my post.
