So apparently there's a Forest Service range that has been in the works for ever, but still hasn't materialized.

Are there any spots around here to do 100-200 yard (or greater?) shooting safely and legally?

Actually, it's Game and Fish that has been working for 15 years or more, for a range near Flagstaff.

http://www.azgfd.gov/outdoor_recreation/nazsr.shtml

apparently the lefties up there think the proposed site is too close to Walnut Canyon, and would be too noisy.

Ironically, one of the places that people shoot around Flagstaff, I understand, is the National Forest, very close to Walnut Canyon.

There also is an area north of I-40 on the east side of town (pretty much due north of Walnut Canyon) that is used a lot. Search AZS for "Flagstaff", as I remember a thread on that within the last year...

I have no problem with either of those locations, the second is just past the RC club airstrip and I have used it for impromptu shooting sessions several times before. The first, though, is on the wrong side of the road for the 1000yrd range, which I am reluctant to publically post...

This is where my dad and I always went when I was still living up there. we used to stay up on the top level if we were shooting rifle or pistol and go down into the lower pit for trap.

yeah, I said that in February... fact of the matter is, that AZGFD range west of Flagstaff is now open.

Grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremonies are next Saturday, July 7, at 10 a.m.
