ATF to Issue New Ruling on Monday regarding New Restrictions on Shotgun Importation
January 19th, 2011

Today, the ATF announced at the 2011 SHOT Show that a new ruling would be issued on Monday, January 24, 2011, regarding the importability of certain shotguns. ATF informed the audience at the ATF Townhall meeting that they wanted to ensure that they were properly and justly enforcing the requirements of a shotgun being for a “sporting purpose.”

This is definitely concerning given the huge demand for certain shotguns like the Saiga platform, which has seen a noticeable increase in demand. While ATF would not comment on which shotguns will be named in this ruling, I would not be surprised to hear that the Saiga is going to be mentioned in the ruling, given the large capacity magazines and feeding devices that are now available.

Probably be classified as a Destructive Device a la Street Sweeper.

Smells or vinegar, water, and a slight hint of rancid tuna.

This is the problem when you turn law making over to regulatory agencies.

The info may be correct, but I'd take anything written by Joshua Prince with a grain of salt. He's shown his ass in the past on his view of the gun world...

Hopefully that is not so, I still haven't gotten around to purchasing one yet.

So if you own one and it becomes a "Destructive Device" then you have to pay for a tax stamp for it, or you get grandfathered in?

There would be an amnesty period where it needs to be registered, but it is a tax free registration.

3 gun is a sport and lots of people use the Saiga-12. Therefore it is a sporting rifle. [smilie=icon_mrgreen.gif]

Need some help here, gang: Not about to go poking around some gummint website to give them more on the file (filing cabinet?) they probably have on me, so without being able to see the copy the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives, Incendiaries and Electrically Ignited Ordnance (aka B.A.T.F. - E.I.E.I.O) has, where was Amendment II redacted to limit anything to 'sporting purposes'? Or, for that matter, ducks, deer or dip$#!+s?

sounds like a saiga rumor to help sales, as if they weren't good enough.
nothing like a scare to cause a run on a product.
one of the best sales techniques in the world.

Oh yeah, gas is gonna be hard to get,,raise the price.
