I just picked up a slightly used Rock River Arms LAR-9 7-Inch A4 Pistol. Sale included two really heavy duty C-Products 32 round steel magazines with black followers and a plastic ProMag magazine with a waffle pattern on the lower 2/3s of the magazine.

I just got the pistol, will SBR it, and in the meantime want to get some additional mags.

In doing a little research, is it true that the "Colt" branded magazines are manufactured by C-Products? I have read opinions that MetalForm mags are Colt contract as well. Darn internet!

More importantly: are these good magazines, and worth buying more of?

Thanks.

Last I heard Colt mags were made by several manufacturers.
C Products are fine, but the company it's self is out of business.
If you can get them cheap, buy them.

The first company Colt subbed out to for 9mm magazines was Metalform. After that they used CProducts for no other reason than the price. Colt has since gone back to Metalform due to CProducts going out of buisness. Metalform has been known as the gold standard for 9mm magazines. CProducts, while cheaper, have issue running in many platforms, the RRA being one. I have a RRA dedicated magwell SBR and haven't had an issue...but many do. If possible, stick to the Metalform or the RRA modified Uzi mags and you won't have an issue. The Promag....well, doesn't have too good of a following. They have a tendency to "erupt", and the bodies to split due to the plastic flexing. 9mm AR's are a helluva lot of fun, best gun I've bought in a long time.

I believe this is the company that bought C-Products. Trying to keep up with them since the C-Products 30 round 7.62x39 mag works best in my AR.

These folks seem to be able to ship their gear too.

Thanks fellas. I just purchased 10 C-Products mags on gunbroker. They were cheap enough ($14.49 each) that if they don't work I'll just sell them. I'll keep a watch out for Metalform mags.

Thanks for the tip!

Just got three NIB Metalform mags. Nearly triple the price as the C-Products but still cheaper than "Colt" (branded floorplate) mags. I'm covered!

the 9mm CP mags gave people a lot of issues. it was then learned they patterned the first release after the bushmaster carbon in 9mm... WTF, you own a gun magazine mfg company and they didn't even know a single guy with a Colt??? I guess brain dead decisions like that easily explains why they went out of business.

They redesign the mag at least once or more.

Ive tryed using at least a dozen or so different versians of the Cproducts mags.. All of them turned out to be total garbage. Spend the money and get the Meatalform/Colt mags. Thoes work all the time. Buy once, cry once...

I just wanted to report back on this...

I've shot the RRA 9mm AR a few times using both the C-Products and Metalform magazines (and even the cheapo ProMag) with not a single issue with any of the magazines, but I do have one complaint...

The Metalform magazines are the most difficult magazines I have ever loaded in my life! The bullets just REFUSE to go in! I can push down the follower without issue with my finger, but trying to stack rounds in them is nearly impossible! These are brand new magazines.

Any suggestions?

Also, what speed loader works on these magazines? My MagLula that I use for my Glock mags doesn't really push the round down enough on either the CProducts or the Metalform magazines.

get some grease gun magazines and realize how easy your metalforms are to load by comparison?

Doesn't LULA make one for Colt mags?

COLT absolutely are NOT made by Cprod.

Cprod were some of THE MOST problematic mags ever produced... you might get good ones, but I wouldn't take a Cprod mag for free.... PERIOD.

That company and it's peckerhead owner ran so many batches of bad mags, it was a joke. You could go into their forum on ArfTard and look at all the threads about "where are my replacement mags".

Then that d1ckweed owner would jump all over you if you pointed out their history of QC nightmares.

There's no excuse for buying that crap when NHMTG and Pmags are readily available for the same or a little more. Mags are too important to be buying from bad manufacturers.

COLT SMG LULA™ loader and unloader for 9 x 19mm original Colt SMG mags, and modified UZI mags. made to exact specs.
We suggest using an UZI LULA™ loader for modified UZI magazines as it may fit better.

Quake Guy: yeah, I have heard about grease gun and Sten magazines being so hard to load that it actually totally ruins the ownership of those SMGs.

MarkM: I have read on MANY different websites and forums that both Metalform and C-Products have made 9mm magazines for Colt at one point or another. Not saying it's FACT, but that information is out there in more places than one.

west-phoenix-az: NAILED IT! Just orderd one. You are the man! Thanks! I had never seen that Lula (I have two AR mag loaders and two pistol loaders by Lula) before your post. THANKS! :)
