I still maintain that supressor use is just good manners. We aren't the only users of public lands, and the neighborly thing to do is not make more noise than neccessary.

I agree. The idea that criminals could use them for illegal activity's should not prevent myself and other law abiding citizens from using them for hunting.

Exactly, the thought of someone already commiting a crime and using a sound suppression device is ludicrous.
It would be one thing if the gun was Hollywood quiet, but quite another in real life. I still wear hearing protection at the range when shooting suppressed, that is unless I'm shooting a 22 pistol or sub sonic in one of my rifles.

I should have checked today on the bill status, Monday for sure. It would be great if this passes.

From the AZCDL Newsletter:

HB 2728, which would allow the use of sound suppressors when hunting, passed out of the House MAPS Committee on February 8, 2012, by a vote of 6 to 1 with 3 members absent.

Arizona: Pro-Hunting Legislation Passes in Committee and is Sent to House floor!

HB 2728 Could Face a Vote Next Week - Contact your state Representatives TODAY!

Yesterday, the Arizona House Committee on Military Affairs and Public Safety by a 6 to 0 vote sent House Bill 2728 to the state House floor with a “do pass" recommendation. This NRA-backed pro-hunting legislation, introduced by state Representative David Gowan (R-30), could now be voted on by the state House as early as next week. Enactment of HB 2728 would allow hunters in Arizona to use lawfully-possessed suppressors (also referred to as silencers) on firearms for hunting. This bill needs your support!

In order to acquire a suppressor, a purchaser must submit the appropriate paperwork to the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives where long wait times for approval are unfortunately common (four to six months), undergo a background check by the FBI, find a licensed dealer authorized to conduct the transaction and pay a one-time $200 tax for each device. While suppressors do not eliminate the sound of a firearm, they do reduce the muzzle report in a manner similar to the way that a muffler reduces exhaust noise from a vehicle. The benefits associated with suppressor use include increased accuracy due to reduced recoil and muzzle blast, protection from hearing damage and reduced noise pollution.

Noise complaints are being used more frequently as an excuse to close shooting ranges, informal shooting areas, and hunting lands throughout the country. Increased use of suppressors will help to eliminate many of these complaints and protect hunting and shooting areas well into the future. For more information on firearms and suppressors, click here.

Currently, more than half of the states allow hunters to use suppressors while hunting. It’s time that hunters in Arizona enjoy these same opportunities available to residents in more than half of the country. The NRA will continue working to legalize suppressors while hunting, and will keep you updated on HB 2728.

It's time to contact Senate members and urge the passing of this bill

Having a suppressors in all hunting equipment would be a lot nicer than not having at all.
It will reduce the noise pollution in such ways and would also add some advantage on the hunter not to alarm the other prey to be hunted, so this is a great way and a great strategy to be think of in doing some hunting.

Going to get this thread started again..........

So Gov. Jan Brewer signed HB2728 on March 29, 2012. With that being said does anyone know when this law will be in effect? I called AZGFD and they said at this time it is still ILLEGAL to hunt with a suppressor (of course this was just the customer service line so who knows if the lady I spoke with knew what she was talking about). My understanding is that once a Bill passes the House and is signed into law by the Govenor, the law takes effect 90 days after the signing. Which would be June 27, 2012. Does anyone know for certain if this is when the Law goes into effect? I tried to do a Google search but could not find an answer.

I thought it was three months from the end of the legislative session.

I tried doing multiple searches by the bill # and found no date. If you have a link to any dates it'd be appreciated if you'd post it
