i was wondering if anyone knew if the .45+p ACP TAP ammo is safe to run through my XD45 or my Glock36? havent looked to see if mfg recommends against +p ammo in either. what are thoughts about hornady TAP vs Critical Defence? only difference i saw was the filler in the HP of the CD.

They will be safe. +p in .45 acp is only 8% more pressure than standard. (it's also a solution looking for a problem)

The TAP is loaded with the XTP bullet. The XTP was designed as a hunting bullet when Hornady "re-purposed" into the TAP line. It penetrates deeper and does not expand as well as your standard SD bullets like the Speer Gold Dot, Winchester Ranger, or Federal HST loads.

The CD line was designed with civilian self defense in mind and is designed to underpenetrate compared to the FBI/IWBA test criterion. The FBI/IWBA requires 12-18" of penetration. The Hornady engineers thought that was too much, and designed the entire CD line to penetrate 10-12". (there was an American Rifleman article on this about 4-6 months back)

It should run fine but is overrated. I like TAP better than critical defense but less than HST, Gold Dot, Ranger SXT.

Ranger SXT is old. Ranger-T is much newer and better performing. So is Ranger-B (Bonded version).

Does anyone carry the 62gr TAP Barrier locally? Just placed an online order for some target ammo, but didn't think to add this in. SGC has some TAP, but not the 62gr. Barrier flavor.

Yeah, great in rifles, but also prefer the HST or Gold Dot in pistols.
