I have several 1911's and my friends tell me I have to have a COLT in my collection! So yeah, I bought a new agent for my new carry....and after scratching my glasses and a bloody forehead from a poorly tuned extractor I sent it in for repair.
It has been 5 weeks with no word so I call them (COLT MFG.) and find out it has just been evaluated? and it will be 8-9 more weeks before I see my NEW COLT....
I'm sorry.... but I love Springfield all the more now!
I will not buy another COLT and pay to much because of the name....
by the way when I get it back I am trading it for a Springfield or Ruger.

I really don't think it is a US made pistol?
Glad I'm not alone, thought I would get excuses from COLT puritans.
So for my favorite pistol is my Ruger MK III 22/45. I have some expensive pistols and I like the 22lr.. Guess that's why I drank Beer instead of Scotch...LOL

I don't drink beer,(much), but, I do like my old colt clone, from over fifty years ago. Try not to judge the companies entire production by a single purchase BOE,... this can happen to anyone, imo.

I think producing a full size 9mm, in a 1911 platform, has its moments,... or we would see more of them, around.

Some 1911's in standard 45acp, stuffed into little pocket examples are tough enough to get to function reliably (imo) , so, it wouldn't surprise me a 9mm pocket 1911, may need a tweak or two.

Tweaking 1911 extractors, on a new purchase, no matter what size or caliber, should pretty much be considered SOP.

But it's a 45acp! that's why it ejected with enough force to bloody my brow and scratch my glasses. I have a SA Loaded 1911 9mm shot it today and it is great! Twice the gun compared to the Colt 45 new agent I purchased. I will trade the Colt for a SA. or Para when it comes back from the MFG.

That's interesting to hear that Colt has poor customer service. I've had trouble with Benelli's customer service so won't buy their products any longer. There are enough choices out there and guns cost enough that I won't put up with poor service.

I've got quite a few Colts and have never had a minute's trouble with them.

On the other hand, I've got a lot of other manufacturers guns and I haven't had a minute's trouble with them either.

I'm 'way overdue for getting a lemon.

You sent a 1911 back to the manufacturer for something you could have fixed yourself in about 5 minutes, and you are complaining that it is taking too long to get back?

8-9 weeks is ridiculous though.

For what it's worth, I agree with the comment of not judging an entire brand based on one gun. Ask anyone who works on a lot of 1911s. Most box stock 1911s have less than optimal extractor tension. Colt is among the best of the $1300 and under 1911s when it comes to extractor tension. Springfield is usually the worst. Doesn't make Springfield bad or Colt good. I'm just saying that when it comes to extractors that is what can be seen across a broad number of guns.

My only point is that you simply cannot expect a box stock 1911 to have a properly tuned extractor. You should be able to, but unfortunately that's not the industry standard. 1911s can be great, but have their limitations from the box. Learning to tension and radius an extractor is a necessary step in owning a 1911, unless you don't mind sending it to a smith. Just my two cents.

I do expect when I spend over $1,000 to be able to shoot the gun without becoming a gunsmith. Just reading the expectations stated here, Colt has clearly lost their reputation for out of the box quality. I just got back from the Shot Show in Vegas and that is not industry standard.
This is not judged by one Colt gun, but many. I still love Colt guns. I just don't love Colt.

Flash, you are one lucky sucker. My karma runs real good, but I get guns that need work. My new Ruger SR22 pistol is one more example of a new gun needing tuning. It cost $289, not $1,300. I can do a little work at that price.

Lost
